Discussion pages, May 2009

A comment thread under every tweet

The top-100 table gave each tweet a numbered page where readers could talk about it. The archive saved more than a hundred of those pages, all from May 2009.

The timestamp beside each tweet on the table was a link. It led to a page with a five-digit number, the tweet set as a headline, and a Disqus comment thread underneath. In the first days those pages lived at 100twt.com/discuss/; soon after they moved to discuss.100twt.com, with the same date-and-number addresses.

The numbers make a rough speedometer. Item 00009 is dated May 4, 2009. Item 00957 is dated May 6. The homepage capture of May 9 links to items in the 2780s and 2790s. The counter was climbing by several hundred a day.

The Internet Archive saved 115 of these pages, nearly all from May 8 and 9. Each one held a single tweet and an empty space where the comments would load. The two that survive at their original 100twt.com addresses are kept below, exactly as captured. The rest were one tweet each and aren't reproduced. Addresses on the old discuss subdomain now lead here.
